Why do you want to be a successful entrepreneur?

Specifically, why do you want to be a successful real estate investor?

The first thought that generally comes to mind is the money? I want to make a lot of money!

In the end…it’s never about the money.

Sure, at first the extra money is great. You close a $11,000 deal and you want to roll around in $100 bills.

You do your second and third deal like that and the excitement quickly wanes. You become accustomed to having a lot of extra money. You become accustomed to making $100,000 a year – or $250,000 a year or more. You’re doing it working even part time hours.

In fact, money isn’t even a thought anymore. You only think about money when you don’t have enough. Once you are in abundance, your mind refocuses on your real “why”.

You soon realize that being a successful real estate investor means time freedom.

I remember my first week after leaving my corporate job to go full time into investing. My wife had been able to leave her job months earlier and was more accustomed to this new life.

It was a Wednesday afternoon just after lunch and she asked me if I wanted to go see a movie. I told her I couldn’t. Her next question was “why?’ and my answer revealed how I had been brain-washed by the corporate culture.

I replied: “Because it’s the middle of the afternoon on a workday – I can’t just leave.”

She then helped me to see that it was no longer about the hours I put in, but rather about the results. Nobody was monitoring my “face time”. I was free to do what I want.

The freedoms expanded from there. I was able to pick up my kids from school. I could go to all of their events. I could be off with them when they were off from school.

I could take vacation when I wanted. I could extend a weekend anytime I wanted.

Now I have been free for so long, I forget sometimes that others have to “ask” for time off – they can’t just pick up and go.

In addition to spending more time with family, you also have more free time to give away. You can become involved in church and civic organizations. You can help out at your child’s school. You can volunteer.

You also have time for hobbies…time to do the things you enjoy.

Here’s the lesson I learned about money. It is in abundance. The goal is to keep it moving. Money in motion always returns tenfold.

Time is the limited commodity; and so trading hours for dollars is just too high of a price. Make your money quickly and spend your hours enjoying your life.

Do you have that freedom today?

If not, why not? Here’s the big question…will you have that freedom a year from now or will you still be dreaming about it.
